PROFILE;

basics.
NAME; Yukio Shizuka 静香幸男
     Yukio → "gets what he wants"
     Shizuka → "quiet perfume"
AGE; Nineteen.
BIRTHDATE; 16 January 1990.
SEXUALITY; Indiscriminate.
ALIAS/CODENAME; Akuma.

concept.
Yukio is the son of a demon and a human, raised for the majority of his life in the city bounds of Neopolis; his human mother and half-brother, however, were left in Japan as he and his father relocated to the super-city when Yukio was just a toddler. Despite his father's occasional villainous mischief, Yukio feels a less powerful drive for evil -- perhaps the influence of the half of him that is still human, or perhaps a lack of personal offense acted against him on a grander scale, but he is perfectly content to thoughtlessly use his powers on innocent bystanders until he figures out where he wants to direct his efforts for the rest of his life.

school & powers.
FACULTY; Gothic.
YEAR; Third year.
SKILLS; Possession and influence/persuasion. While the ability to influence those around him can be used on multiple people at a time, possession can only be used on a single target at a time. He practices his abilities "influence" (or rather control) people's actions, and he's highly gifted at it, but he is admittedly less fond of taking possession of another individual; the vulnerability of leaving his own body unprotected makes him more nervous than simply making people do what he wants them to do in a broader way. He plans to perfect and give attention to possession over time (after all, his father insists on it as a defining feature of a proper demon), but for the moment, it is less of a priority. The flipside of his powers shows in his physical weakness in hand-to-hand combat and a tendency to prefer to stay behind the scenes.
ALLIANCE; Evil League of Evil, though he's more pro-self.

personality.
Solemnity and seriousness frame Yukio's disposition, setting him aside from some of the more rambunctious individuals in the school -- or at least such is his preferred image. Though quite a happy and contented individual, it is a rarity to see a bright smile or a bounding laugh coming from him: happiness, sadness, anger each have a subdued quality, no matter the intensity that he might genuinely feel. Friends (and notable enemies) bring about a higher level of animation, but he is not a highly emotional creature, and such cases are the exception to the somewhat flexible rule, rather than the rule themselves. Very self-disciplined (though he gives himself permission to misbehave -- sometimes it is necessary!) and conscientious about his work, there is nothing half-done about him if he cares to pay it mind, and he takes himself and others quite seriously.

He is not a solely serious and humorless half-demon, however. There is a lurking nature of mischief, shaded though it might be by his straight face, and he garners a great joy from quietly causing havoc around him. He finds the subtly of the execution and the flailing of the victims far more rewarding than going about it in a booming and loud fashion, and he holds absolutely no respect for people's free will. Without consideration, victims are chosen and toyed with to practice his powers, but he lacks the malice to actually cause any permanent damage to those who have not first offended him. It's all fun and games (and power-pursuit) to him, after all. The concept of purposely breaking one's own toys is just silly.

An aura of relaxation surrounds him, despite his high-achieving nature, and Yukio approaches life from a rather mellow point of view. That is not to say he will sit back and let one of those irritating demon hunters get anywhere near him (there are some times when swift and/or agitated movements are necessary), nor is to say that a that there would be no retaliation to a threat or attack (though physically fighting is out of the question), but he is not so high-strung as to be set off regularly. Often he enjoys indulging in observation, watching those around them to study their personalities, habits, weaknesses, interests to file away neatly in his mind, and it is not uncommon for him to know small observed details about someone who might have never noticed his existence. He does not typically consider their ignorance to be an offensive truth.

There are not many things that can touch his heart or bring him wrenching unhappiness -- in fact, he can not predict what such a thing would feel like, nor what might bring it about -- and due to his enjoyment and pursuit of manipulating others, that same manipulation is difficult to execute on him. What he does is what he wishes to do, regardless of pressures, and he is in the business of making himself happy. Whoever or whatever is stepped on in the process is often considered to be generally irrelevant. He is not above asking advice on how to go about something of uncertainty, but there is no guarantee that he is not asking simply in order to waste the person's breath. He is uncomfortable with the deep fondness he feels for the few he considers to be friends, not liking the weakness inherent in a sense of fondness, and he does not always, in every case, wish to so much as inform the other person that they are indeed considered a friend rather than a minion of sorts -- but despite his reservations, he cannot help but wish to keep some people close, even if his motives are not always clear on the matter.

history.
Yukio's roots began on the island of Japan when his father, Jaken Shizuka, first laid eyes on the lovely Akari Sasaki: a gentle, beautiful human women in a nearby village. Observations of her husband and child seemed above Jaken's notice, replaced instead with calculations and dismissals as he determined her the suitable vessel to hold his child. Demons were a recognized and feared superstition in the village, but with a careful avoidance of temples and evil-warding trinkets, Jaken and others of his kind had feigned an element normalcy amongst the humans, and he suffered little hindrance when his plans were set into motion.

On an evening spent gathering wood from the forest, Jaken followed the woman's husband, swiftly possessing him and sentencing to drown in the nearby stream. It was at the last moment, as he felt the last traces of life leaving the man's body, the Jaken released his control and returned to his own body nearby, guarded carefully by a small number of accomplices. In short time -- once Akari had learned of her own grief -- Jaken approached her, preying on her weakness and utilizing his influential ability to impregnate her with a son: Yukio.

The months to follow had been no honeymoon phase; Jaken kept both human woman and human child under his thumb with subtle and necessary persuasions, justifying his presence expertly to avoid superstitious suspicion from the neighbors in the village. When the baby boy was born, Jaken considered only briefly the opportunity to flee, ultimately deciding to remain in place for the moment to allow the infant to grow to a more manageable age. He had heard of America's Neopolis -- a haven for the supernatural and empowered -- but it was not until Yukio was two years old that he opted to flee the country with his toddler son and Akari's savings, leaving Akari and her first son alone in the village without word.

Despite the language barrier, father and child did not find it difficult to settle into the new world. Jaken did not need the language to get people to do things for him nor to possess them, and what English he had studied for the years of preparation for their flight was enough to functionally carry them through to the years when Yukio began his education at The Mary Shelley School, solidly integrating Yukio into the world around him. There would have been a preference for Fenris Academy, but the financial stretched settled Yukio into the next best option; at least it was not Marvelous High.

A very studious child, Yukio took to his early education with a solemn enthusiasm. He had learned of his talent for influential manipulations from a young age and did not hesitate to test them on the world around him -- teacher, peer, and stranger alike. He was never the outgoing child in the class, but he was comfortable enough amongst those who were, although different, different in a way that felt increasingly familiar as his world prior to Neopolis faded into a distant memory.

By the time he was ending his high school years and preparing for trade school, Yukio had developed a reputation for seriousness and a quiet sense of mischief. He bore no shame in occasionally attempting to trick teachers out of an undesired test, or a student into doing something for him that he did not feel inclined to bother himself with. Although not unkind, his familiar social circle is limited and comprised of no single type of person. Although it is alleged that he has no real friends (after all, he could theoretically just force people be his friends) such is not actually the case. All the same, he doesn't bother denying it: people are generally stupid anyway.

When the time game for him to leave high school behind and enter into trade school, he fell automatically into a track for the Insidious Institute amongst his fellow "villainous" sorts. His father's ventures of villainous aspiration under the alias of "Onikami" were never official acts of villainy, but all the same, they were by no means entirely ineffective. The perpetual tensions between Hero and Villain were clearer and clearer with each added year of wisdom, and while Yukio felt no personal malice (save for some unavoidable exceptions), he supposes the benefits of being in the Evil League of Evil are someone intriguing, despite lacking any deep and driving need to terrorize the world at large. He enjoys terrorizing the individuals who get on his nerves and practicing his power-plays on random individuals for his own personal amusement, but he can't bother to care enough about evil to feel an unwavering drive for world domination.

With the opening of Neopolis Academy, however, he still found himself put out by roaming the halls with the heroes when such scuffling had risen between the two groups. They were sometimes an annoyance, but they were bearable -- some more bearable than others -- and he is resigned to finish off the honing of his abilities in his final year of trade school before entering into the world beyond. He hopes that, by then, he will have an inkling of an idea as to what he actually wishes to do.

PLAYED-BY; Jun Matsumoto.

ASPIRATIONS;
Despite his high-achieving nature, Yukio lacks certain direction for that ambition to be channeled toward, much to his discomfort with his nearing (or perhaps impending) graduation. The Evil League of Evil benefits sound intriguing, even if he's still deciding whether or not BEING EVIL is his truest and most outstanding ambition -- though he quips that he would make an excellent attorney, what, with his ability to make the judge remarkably see things his way.
COMIC BOOK TITLE; "The Devil's Advocate."
